Question
I have a question regarding the hair style features of “Charlie” or Zac Efron in the movie ‘Charlie St. Cloud.’
I’ve been trying for some time to reproduce the style that he has during the middle section of the movie (let’s say after the 5 year skip). Especially during the scene in which he walks outside after the talk with his savior (the paramedic) in the diner.
It seems that his hair is painted in a brown color with some lighter highlights… Correct? Do you remember which colors that were used? And which hair product was used? I get the feeling it’s something like molding mud (Sebastián)?

Answer
Zack had a very special hair cut that was shorter on the sides and back. Quite long on the top but very thinned out in the ends so it would stand up quite well. He naturally has dark brown hair; I did paint some highlights to give it a little bit of contrast.
Most importantly the product I used is awesome, “Hawleywood’s Layrite Pomade“. It is easy to order online. I used the regular hold. I would dry his hair quite well and then work the product through. It’s a very strong wax and takes a little work but once it is done right it lasts very well all day. Make sure you rub it in your hands to make it warm, then it is much easier to get even throughout your hair.
So with your hair I think the length on the top is great, just needs to be shorter on the sides and back. If you take a line from the corner of your eye brow going back a little higher in the back, every thing below should be shorter. The top part should remain long just use a little thinning out to blend a bit, but there is a difference in length from the top to the sides
For the color, you need some very fine streaks in the front and a little in the sides. I would use 20-30 vol peroxide with a very ash blond (for example in Wella, 8\71 is the color). I would put the streaks in for 30 mins then take out the tin foil (make sure you do foil streaks) and comb through the front of your hair for maybe 5 mins. This will blend it a little so it looks more natural. If the color goes light fast then maybe only 3 mins.
Hope this helps, good luck!
